SMALL CARS
Small cars are smaller in the sense that they can carry around
4-5 people but not in very comfortable manner.Small cars were
developed mainly for the common man who cannot afford to spend
on large cars.These cars are smaller than other cars and cheaper
to buy.They cost between $5k and $12K.These cars are powered
by small gasoline engines or small efficient diesels.These cars are
not provided with many luxury options,but some standard options
like the AC are present.Small cars give peoplethe ability to co-
mmute easily in towns and cities.Many people have these cars as
their second car in addition to their other cars.These cars are very
useful in cities were roads are small and parking is a problem.
The small car concept was started by the Ford Model T
introduced in 1903.It gave the common man access to cars.It was
designed to be easy to own and repair.Today many companies make small cars.The Volswagen Beetle was a vey sucessful
model selling in millions like the Ford.Small cars are usually hatchbacks and threebox versions of the same hatchbacks.Small
cars are bestsellers in developing countries and countries with congested cities like London.More and more versions are
comming up as the manufacturers realise the potential of small cars.Some companies sell rebadged versions of cars made by
other companies if the don't have one in their line up.For example Rover sells the Tata Indica as the City Rover as an entry
level small car in UK.Some of the popular small cars are Volswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Toyota Yaris, Honda City, Peugeot
306, Fiat Marea and many others.
