SUPERCARS
Supercars are cars which are designed and built for the
sole purpose of achiving high speeds.Supercars are cars
in which the highest levels of technological development
takes place.They have ultimate engines and bodies are
good looking.Most of the supercars are built by indivi-
dually and hence have high levels of perfection.Only a
few are built each year by their maufacturers.Supercars
have V8,V10 or V12 engines.Most produce power more
than 500 bhp.They rev upto 10,000 rpm and have slick]
gearboxes.Almost all supercars have topspeeds in excess
of 200mph,the fastest being 250mph.To achive this the
weight has to be kept low and hence carbin fibre bodies
or light alliminium bodies are use.These cars do not have
luxury accessories fitted.Most have spartian interiors and
even sound insulation is absent.The sound of the V12's
reving upto 10,000rpm is irrestible for some.They do have
racing seats,leater or alliminuium consoles,paddles shifters etc.Supercars come fitted with all control features like ABS,
TCS,ASR,Active Body control,Ceramic or high density steel brakes,etc
The term supercars came in to existence in the 1950's.People like Enzo Ferrari,Ferdinand Porshe,
Furruccio Lamborgini were the race pioneers who created such cars.They were mainly racing professionals who built cars
for racing.They consideribly modified the engines and reworked the chassis.Some great supercars were Ferrari Dino,
Ford GT40, Lamborgini Miura , Porshe 911GT,Mercedes SLR etc.Today these companies have upped their game
producing even greater supercars.Modern supercars have all the might that cars can posses.They are seriously quick.They
are aerodynamically designed using wind tunnel stimulation.Most have drag coeffecient lesser than 0.26CD. Most supercars
cost above $100k and some breach the crust at $500K.Some modern supercars are Maclaren F1, Lamborgini Murcielago,
Ferrari Enzo ,Mercedes SLR Maclaren, Porche Carrera GT ,Bugatti Veryon etc.A lower level of supercars also exist,
called as sportscars.They are also fast and have enough grunt but they differ in the fact that they are more lifestyle vehicles
than ultimate speed machines.hey are very good looking and have many supercar like interior features.They cost upwards
of $60K and are produced in few thousands.Their power ranges from 250bhp to 550bhp.Some examples of sports cars are
Ferrari 360, Mercedes Benz SL, Porsche Boxter, Chevrolet Corvette ,Aston Martin Vanquish,
BMW M3,M5 etc.
